Author Guidelines

The Journal of Educational Innovation and Research publishes original scholarly articles reporting research findings, educational innovations, conceptual studies, development studies, and evidence-based practices in the field of education.

The journal welcomes manuscripts from academics, researchers, educators, teachers, students, practitioners, and other professionals whose work is relevant to the journal's focus and scope.

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. Manuscripts must be original, have not been published previously, and must not be under consideration for publication in another journal.

 

Article Types

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  1. Research Articles

Original research articles presenting theoretical foundations, research methods, findings, discussion, and conclusions.

  1. Review Articles

Critical and systematic reviews of previous research that provide comprehensive insights into a particular educational topic.

  1. Development and Innovation Articles

Articles reporting the development, implementation, validation, or evaluation of educational models, media, applications, technologies, curricula, learning resources, or innovative educational practices.

  1. Conceptual Articles

Scholarly articles presenting theoretical perspectives, conceptual frameworks, or critical analyses of emerging issues in education.

 

Language

Manuscripts may be written in:

  • English, or
  • Indonesian.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript uses clear, accurate, and academically appropriate language.

Manuscripts containing substantial language errors may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

 

Originality and Submission Policy

Authors must ensure that:

  1. The manuscript is an original work.
  2. The manuscript has not been published previously in any journal, book, conference proceeding, website, or other publication.
  3. The manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  4. All sources, ideas, data, quotations, figures, tables, and other materials originating from other works are properly cited.
  5. The manuscript does not contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct.
  6. All listed authors have made significant contributions to the research and manuscript.
  7. All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript.
  8. Any potential conflict of interest is disclosed.
  9. Research involving human participants or other activities requiring ethical approval complies with applicable ethical standards.

 

Manuscript Structure

A research article should generally contain the following sections:

Title

The title should:

  • clearly describe the main topic of the research;
  • be concise and informative;
  • avoid unnecessary abbreviations;
  • reflect the main variables, methods, or research context where appropriate.

The recommended title length is 12–18 words.

Author Information

The manuscript should include:

  • Full name of each author;
  • Institutional affiliation;
  • Department or study program, where applicable;
  • City and country;
  • Corresponding author's email address.

The author information must be consistent with the information entered into the OJS submission system.

Abstract

The abstract should briefly describe the research and its main findings.

The abstract should generally include:

  1. Background or research problem;
  2. Objective;
  3. Method;
  4. Main findings;
  5. Conclusion or implication.

Recommended length: 150–250 words.

The abstract should be written as a single paragraph and should not contain citations, tables, figures, or unexplained abbreviations.

Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords that represent the main concepts of the manuscript.

Keywords should be separated by commas.

 

Main Manuscript

6.1 Introduction

The introduction should provide a clear background and rationale for the research.

It should include:

  • research context and background;
  • identification of the research problem;
  • relevant previous studies;
  • research gap;
  • research objectives or questions;
  • contribution or novelty of the study.

Authors are encouraged to use recent and relevant scholarly references to establish the research gap and position the study within the existing literature.

6.2 Research Method

The method section should provide sufficient information for readers to understand and, where appropriate, reproduce the research.

Depending on the type of study, this section may include:

  • research design;
  • research location and period;
  • population and sample;
  • participants or research subjects;
  • data sources;
  • research instruments;
  • data collection procedures;
  • research variables;
  • data analysis techniques;
  • software or tools used;
  • validity and reliability procedures;
  • ethical considerations.

For technology-based or development research, authors should clearly explain the development model, stages, system design, testing procedures, and evaluation methods.

6.3 Results

The results section should present the research findings clearly and objectively.

Results may be presented using:

  • tables;
  • figures;
  • charts;
  • diagrams;
  • statistical analyses; or
  • other appropriate forms of evidence.

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and referred to in the text.

Results should not unnecessarily repeat information already presented in tables or figures.

6.4 Discussion

The discussion should interpret the findings rather than simply repeat the results.

Authors should:

  • explain the meaning and implications of the findings;
  • compare findings with previous research;
  • explain similarities or differences with previous studies;
  • relate findings to relevant theories;
  • discuss the contribution and novelty of the study;
  • explain practical or theoretical implications;
  • acknowledge important limitations where appropriate.

6.5 Conclusion

The conclusion should directly answer the research objectives or questions.

It should summarize the main findings and their implications without introducing new data or arguments.

Authors may also provide recommendations for future research or practical implementation where relevant.

6.6 Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments may be included for individuals, institutions, research groups, funding agencies, or other parties that contributed significantly to the research but do not qualify for authorship.

6.7 References

All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and every reference in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to prioritize:

  • peer-reviewed journal articles;
  • recent scholarly publications;
  • authoritative academic books;
  • official institutional or governmental publications; and
  • other credible academic sources.

Authors should prioritize recent references, particularly publications from the last five years, while older sources may be used when they represent foundational theories or important historical works.

 

Manuscript Length

The recommended manuscript length is approximately:

4,000–7,000 words, including the abstract, tables, figures, and references.

The manuscript should be sufficiently comprehensive to communicate the research clearly while avoiding unnecessary repetition.

Editors may consider manuscripts outside this range when justified by the nature and contribution of the study.

 

Formatting Requirements

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the journal template.

General formatting requirements include:

  • Paper size: A4
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Main text: 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.15
  • Text alignment: Justified
  • Margins: according to the journal template
  • Page numbering: according to the journal template
  • Tables and figures must be numbered and titled consistently.

Authors should download and use the journal's official manuscript template when preparing their submissions.

 

  1. Tables

Tables should:

  1. Be numbered consecutively.
  2. Have a concise and informative title.
  3. Be referred to in the manuscript.
  4. Use clear headings.
  5. Avoid unnecessary decorative formatting.
  6. Include the source when the table is adapted or reproduced from another source.

Figures and Images

Figures, diagrams, charts, photographs, and other visual materials must:

  • be relevant to the discussion;
  • have appropriate resolution;
  • be numbered consecutively;
  • have a clear caption;
  • be referred to in the manuscript;
  • identify the source when applicable.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted materials when required.

 

Equations and Mathematical Expressions

Mathematical equations should be written clearly using an appropriate equation editor.

Equations should be numbered consecutively when they are referenced in the text.

Variables and mathematical symbols should be explained when necessary.

 

Citation and Reference Style

The journal recommends the use of APA Style, 7th Edition for citations and references.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference-management software such as:

  • Mendeley;
  • Zotero; or
  • EndNote.

Examples of in-text citations:

Three or more authors:

Authors should ensure that citations are accurate and correspond to the references listed at the end of the manuscript.

 

Reference Requirements

Authors are encouraged to use a sufficient number of high-quality references relevant to the research.

As a general recommendation:

  • At least 15 references should be used for a research article.
  • The majority of references should come from scholarly journal articles.
  • Recent references should be prioritized.
  • References should be directly relevant to the research topic.
  • Excessive citation of the authors' own publications should be avoided.
  • Excessive citation of articles from the same journal should be avoided unless academically justified.

Authors should not manipulate citations for the purpose of increasing citation counts.

 

Plagiarism and Similarity

All submitted manuscripts may be checked for plagiarism and textual similarity.

The journal does not tolerate:

  • plagiarism;
  • self-plagiarism;
  • duplicate publication;
  • fabrication;
  • falsification;
  • inappropriate citation practices; or
  • other forms of academic misconduct.

Manuscripts with unacceptable levels of similarity or evidence of plagiarism may be rejected.

The final decision regarding plagiarism and similarity is made by the editor based on the nature, extent, and context of the identified similarity.

 

Ethical Approval

Research involving human participants, personal data, vulnerable groups, or other research activities requiring ethical oversight must comply with applicable ethical standards.

Where applicable, authors should provide information regarding:

  • ethical approval;
  • ethics committee or institutional review board;
  • informed consent; and
  • procedures for protecting participant confidentiality.

 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use

The use of artificial intelligence and generative AI tools in manuscript preparation must be responsible and transparent.

Authors may use AI tools for appropriate purposes such as language improvement, proofreading, formatting, or research assistance. However:

  1. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
  2. Authors remain fully responsible for the submitted manuscript.
  3. AI-generated information must be verified by the authors.
  4. AI must not be used to fabricate data, results, references, or research findings.
  5. Authors should disclose substantive use of generative AI when required.
  6. Confidential manuscript or participant information should not be entered into AI systems in a way that compromises confidentiality.

 

Authorship

All authors listed in the manuscript must have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript.

Authorship may include substantial contributions to:

  • research conception and design;
  • data collection;
  • data analysis;
  • interpretation of findings;
  • manuscript preparation;
  • critical revision; and
  • approval of the final manuscript.

Individuals who do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and ensuring that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript.

 

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or academic relationships that could potentially influence the research or its interpretation.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors may state:

The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest related to this study.

 

Funding

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support for the research.

If the research received no external funding, authors may state:

This research received no external funding.

 

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide information about the availability of research data when appropriate and ethically permissible.

Where data cannot be publicly shared due to privacy, confidentiality, institutional restrictions, or ethical considerations, authors should clearly explain the reason.

 

Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system.

Authors should:

  1. Register an account in the journal's OJS platform.
  2. Log in to the author dashboard.
  3. Start a new submission.
  4. Select the appropriate article section.
  5. Confirm compliance with the journal's submission requirements.
  6. Upload the manuscript according to the journal template.
  7. Enter complete author and manuscript metadata.
  8. Upload supporting files when required.
  9. Review the submission information.
  10. Complete the submission process.

Authors should ensure that all metadata entered into OJS is accurate and complete.

 

Editorial and Peer-Review Process

Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to determine whether they:

  • fit the journal's focus and scope;
  • meet basic academic and formatting requirements;
  • comply with publication ethics;
  • demonstrate sufficient originality; and
  • are suitable for peer review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to qualified reviewers.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The final decision is made by the editor based on the reviewers' comments, manuscript quality, and editorial considerations.

 

Article Processing Charges

The Journal of Educational Innovation and Research does not charge authors any Article Processing Charge (APC).

The following fees are Rp 0 (Free):

  • Submission fee;
  • Article processing fee;
  • Peer-review fee; and
  • Publication fee.

There are no hidden charges associated with the publication of accepted manuscripts.

 

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain appropriate rights to their scholarly work in accordance with the journal's copyright and licensing policy.

Authors must ensure that the manuscript does not violate the copyright or intellectual property rights of others.

The applicable licensing terms will be stated clearly on the journal website and within each published article.

 

Author Declaration

By submitting a manuscript to The Journal of Educational Innovation and Research, authors confirm that:

  1. The manuscript is original.
  2. The manuscript has not been published elsewhere.
  3. The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.
  4. All sources have been properly cited.
  5. All authors have approved the manuscript.
  6. The research has been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards.
  7. Any conflicts of interest have been disclosed.
  8. The information and data presented in the manuscript are accurate to the best of the authors' knowledge.
  9. The authors agree to comply with the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.
