Publication Ethics

The Journal of Educational Innovation and Research is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. This publication ethics statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the publisher.

The journal follows principles of integrity, transparency, fairness, confidentiality, accountability, and academic independence in managing the submission, peer-review, and publication processes. The journal's publication ethics policy is developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, including the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

General Principles

The journal is committed to:

Maintaining academic integrity and responsible scholarly publishing.
Ensuring that editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, and contribution of manuscripts.
Providing a fair and transparent peer-review process.
Protecting the confidentiality of manuscripts and personal information.
Preventing plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, and other forms of academic misconduct.
Managing conflicts of interest fairly and transparently.
Correcting or retracting published articles when significant errors or ethical violations are identified.
Treating all authors equally regardless of institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, academic position, or other non-academic considerations.

Responsibilities of the Publisher and Journal Management

The publisher and journal management are responsible for maintaining the journal's editorial independence and supporting the integrity of the publication process.

The publisher and journal management shall:

Provide adequate infrastructure and resources to support the publication process.
Ensure that journal policies, publication fees, peer-review procedures, and ethical policies are clearly communicated to authors and readers.
Protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and author information.
Respect intellectual property and copyright.
Support editors and reviewers in implementing appropriate publication ethics.
Investigate allegations of publication misconduct fairly and objectively.
Take appropriate action when ethical violations are confirmed.
Maintain the integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record.
Ensure that there are no hidden publication charges. The journal currently applies a zero-cost publication policy (Rp 0) for authors.
Support corrections, retractions, and other post-publication actions when necessary.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for managing manuscripts objectively, fairly, and professionally.

Editors shall:

Evaluate manuscripts based on their academic quality, originality, relevance, and contribution to the journal's scope.
Ensure that editorial decisions are not influenced by the author's nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political views, or other non-academic factors.
Select appropriate and qualified reviewers for submitted manuscripts.
Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
Not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for personal research or other purposes.
Manage potential conflicts of interest involving authors, reviewers, and editors.
Ensure that the peer-review process is conducted fairly and consistently.
Respond appropriately to complaints, appeals, and allegations of research or publication misconduct.
Request corrections, clarifications, retractions, or other appropriate actions when necessary.
Ensure that published articles meet the journal's academic and ethical standards.
Encourage authors to provide appropriate ethical approval or ethical clearance when required by the nature of the research.
Continuously improve the quality and integrity of the journal's editorial processes.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscripts are original, accurate, and ethically conducted.

Authors shall:

Submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere.
Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
Provide accurate information regarding research methods, data, analysis, and results.
Ensure that all sources used in the manuscript are properly cited and acknowledged.
Avoid plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and manipulation of research data.
Ensure that all individuals listed as authors have made significant contributions to the research and manuscript.
Obtain approval from all co-authors before submitting the manuscript.
Declare all relevant sources of research funding.
Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Obtain ethical approval or ethical clearance when required by the research.
Respond professionally and promptly to reviewers' and editors' comments.
Inform the editor immediately if a significant error is discovered in a submitted or published article.
Cooperate with the editor in correcting or retracting an article when necessary.
Ensure that the manuscript does not contain defamatory, fraudulent, or misleading information.

Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be based on substantial contributions to the research and manuscript.

Individuals listed as authors should have made meaningful contributions to areas such as:

conception or design of the research;
data collection or analysis;
interpretation of research findings;
development or substantial revision of the manuscript; and
approval of the final version of the manuscript.

Individuals who do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Honorary, guest, ghost, or gift authorship is not permitted.

All authors share responsibility for the integrity of the work and should agree on the final version before submission.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of published research.

Reviewers shall:

Conduct reviews objectively, fairly, and constructively.
Evaluate manuscripts based on academic quality, methodology, originality, relevance, and contribution.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts under review.
Not use unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.
Declare any potential conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment.
Decline to review a manuscript when they have a personal, professional, financial, or academic relationship that may affect their impartiality.
Provide constructive and evidence-based comments.
Avoid personal criticism of authors.
Identify relevant published work that has not been cited when appropriate.
Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe or inform the editor if additional time is required.

Reviewers are expected to provide unbiased and constructive evaluations while protecting the confidentiality of manuscripts.

Peer Review

The Journal of Educational Innovation and Research uses a peer-review process to assess the academic quality and suitability of submitted manuscripts.

Manuscripts are evaluated by reviewers with relevant expertise. Editorial decisions are based on the reviewers' assessments, the quality of the manuscript, and the editor's academic judgment.

The peer-review process is conducted confidentially. Reviewers must not disclose information about manuscripts or use unpublished materials for personal benefit.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance of submitted manuscripts. Acceptance decisions are based on academic merit and compliance with the journal's policies.

Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism or any form of academic misconduct.

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

plagiarism;
self-plagiarism or redundant publication;
fabrication of data;
falsification or manipulation of data;
duplicate or simultaneous publication;
inappropriate authorship;
citation manipulation;
manipulation of peer review;
undisclosed conflicts of interest; and
other practices that compromise academic integrity.

Submitted manuscripts may be checked for plagiarism or textual similarity using appropriate plagiarism-detection tools.

If plagiarism or other misconduct is suspected, the editor may request an explanation from the authors and conduct an investigation. Appropriate editorial action will be taken based on the nature and seriousness of the violation.

Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or academic interests that could influence the publication process.

A conflict of interest does not automatically prevent publication. However, it must be disclosed transparently so that appropriate measures can be taken.

Editors and reviewers should not participate in decisions involving manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.

Research Ethics and Ethical Approval

Research involving human participants, personal data, vulnerable populations, or other activities requiring ethical oversight must comply with applicable ethical standards.

Where required, authors should provide information regarding ethical approval or ethical clearance from an appropriate institution or ethics committee.

Authors are responsible for obtaining informed consent where applicable and for protecting participants' privacy and confidentiality.

The journal may request evidence of ethical approval when necessary.

Data Integrity and Reproducibility

Authors are expected to report research findings honestly and accurately.

Research data should not be fabricated, falsified, selectively manipulated, or intentionally misrepresented.

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors are encouraged to make supporting data, research instruments, analytical procedures, or other materials available to facilitate verification and reproducibility.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research and manuscript preparation must be transparent and responsible.

AI tools may be used to support activities such as language improvement, formatting, data analysis assistance, or other appropriate research-support activities. However:

AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.
Authors should disclose substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when required by the journal.
AI-generated content must be carefully verified by the authors.
Authors must not use AI to fabricate data, references, research findings, or other scholarly information.
Confidential manuscript information must not be entered into AI tools in a manner that compromises confidentiality.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit complaints or appeals regarding editorial decisions or the publication process.

Complaints and appeals will be considered objectively and fairly. The editor will review the relevant information and, where necessary, consult members of the editorial board or independent experts.

The journal does not tolerate retaliation against individuals who raise legitimate ethical concerns or complaints.

Corrections and Retractions

The journal recognizes the importance of maintaining an accurate scholarly record.

Corrections may be issued when an article contains errors that do not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions.

Retraction may be considered when an article contains serious problems, such as:

major errors that invalidate the findings;
fabricated or falsified data;
substantial plagiarism;
duplicate publication;
serious ethical violations; or
other circumstances that significantly compromise the integrity of the published work.

When necessary, corrections or retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original publication to maintain transparency and preserve the scholarly record. COPE provides specific guidance for determining when retraction is appropriate and how retraction notices should be handled.

Post-Publication Issues

The journal welcomes legitimate scholarly discussion concerning published articles.

Readers who identify significant errors, ethical concerns, or potential misconduct in a published article are encouraged to contact the editorial team.

The journal will investigate credible concerns and may publish corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when warranted.

Editorial Independence and Fairness

Editorial decisions are made independently based on scholarly merit and the journal's academic standards.

The journal does not discriminate against authors based on nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political views, or other characteristics unrelated to the academic quality of the manuscript.

All manuscripts are treated fairly and evaluated according to the same editorial and peer-review standards.

Ethical Commitment
